Should you list your home during the holidays?

Are the Holidays a good time to list your home?

There is a popular misconception that homes don’t sell as quickly or as successfully during the holiday season. Thanks to the internet and changing lifestyles, the myth of the holiday slow down doesn’t hold true today. We often find successful sales this time of year due to lower inventory and the seriousness of buyers.  We are here to help debunk that myth and show you some great tips on how to get your home sold quickly for a great price during the holiday season.

Here are some of our top tips on why you should consider listing your home during the holidays!
Decorate your house
One great reason to list your home during the holiday season are the decorations. You want your rooms to appear cozy and inviting, which is exactly what holiday decorations do! Create a sense of warmth throughout the home and create an inviting environment. One of our favorite ways of doing this includes placing festive throw pillows and having scented candles or glade plug ins throughout the home. (We suggest a pine scent!)
Turn up the heat
Winter buyers are particularly attuned to issues related to heating and maintenance. Get your furnace and roof inspected and make any necessary repairs. You may also want to consider low-cost upgrades like insulating the attic or installing energy efficient windows or electronics that can slash utility bills as many house hunters think about heating costs.
Add in some treats
Hot apple cider and cocoa make great beverage choices for any chilly occasions such as Open Houses or showings. If you want to add an additional snack, creamy soups and stews are delicious on a cold day. We suggest serving them in shooter glasses or paper cups to avoid dealing cleaning the utensils. If this is something that you would like to provide for potential buyers, our team will be more than happy to help with clean up and set up!
Maintain cleanliness between showings
We always suggest that our clients hire a professional team to complete a full deep clean before hitting the market.  However, maintaining the cleanliness throughout the entire escrow process is important to always be sure the home is being shown in it’s best light. Clean out cobwebs and dust furniture, light fixtures and windows. If necessary, polish chrome faucets and clean the mirrors after use. Vacuuming daily and mopping is especially important during the rainy months as many times people will track in leaves/dirt. Empty trash and recycling bins every day and spend time on basic home maintenance!
Prepare home photos
Show potential buyers what your home looks like during spring and summer! Showcase what your home has to offer by giving potential buyers the opportunity to see the home during summer by providing videos or photos!
If you are wavering on whether you should put your home on the market now or not, you should keep in mind that timing always depends on supply and demand. Ask us to help you better understand the market and if you do move forward, don’t forget the strategies above to make your home more desirable this holiday season!
